Third Quarter 2011

Progress Update

Ringwood Mines/ Landfill Site

Ford takes its environmental responsibility seriously and has shown through its actions a commitment to addressing company-related issues in Upper Ringwood.

By working closely with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection over the past six years, significant progress has been made.  Ford has voluntarily completed the excavation and disposal of paint sludge from many of the areas indentified during a comprehensive site survey.  The Remedial Investigations of the four areas of concern are nearly complete. The next step will be EPA's selection of the final remedy.

As part of the final remediation plan, Ford is seeking to re-gain ownership of the small part of land near the Peters Mine that the company donated years ago.  By re-acquiring this approximately five acres of land, Ford will be able to more effectively implement the remediation plan for the site and reduce the administrative burden on the Parks department that would be associated with any ongoing maintenance of the property.

The company continues to conduct on-going sampling of surface water, sediments and groundwater at locations throughout the site.  Ford representatives also continue to participate in regular Ringwood Community Advisory Group meetings, which provide residents, local officials and environmental organizations an opportunity to obtain information and ask questions about the cleanup activities at the site.
