Ford completes removal activity; Investigation Reports being prepared for
Peter’s Mine, Cannon Mine and O’Connor Landfill

Working under the direction of EPA, Ford has completed the removal of all of surficial paint sludge deposits outside the limits of the three landfill areas. These areas, Peter’s Mine Area, O’Connor Disposal Area, and Cannon Mine Pit Area, are the focus of additional investigations. Ford is now preparing reports on these investigations. The results will be incorporated with the results of previous investigations (e.g., the site-wide surveillance investigation and follow-up test pit investigation) into a Remedial Investigation report that will be made available for public review and comment. Ford’s contractor also has completed the mine tailings investigation and is preparation a report for submittal to the agency. After EPA reviews this report, Ford expects to receive agency approval to complete restoration activities in areas where surficial paint sludge deposits have been removed, but where EPA has not yet approved their restoration (e.g., SR-3 and SR-4). Pending EPA approvals to complete this additional restoration work, or other investigative or remedial work on the Site, Ford's contractors will not have a day-to-day presence on the Site. However, Ford remains fully committed to the project, and will continue to conduct activities as required by EPA. (Posted 4/30/08)
